Raw Garnet in Schist Pendant, Self Collected in Sylva North Carolina
Raw Garnet in Schist Pendant, Self Collected in Sylva North Carolina
This is the kind of piece The Steampunk Prospector was built around.
I found this garnet bearing schist myself at a quarry in Sylva, North Carolina. The large deep red garnet is still sitting in its original black and white matrix, with several smaller garnets visible throughout the stone.
I left the specimen raw so you can see it exactly as nature formed it. The irregular shape, rough crystal surface, and contrasting matrix are all part of the piece. I framed it in copper wire and added copper colored beads along one side without covering the main garnet.
This is a piece of North Carolina geology that can actually be worn.
